This monthly report presents activities implemented in collaboration with ICAP under the PAS Project funded by CDC/PEPFAR, in collaboration with HIVAIDS Regional Technical Group North. The main purpose of this report is to give an account of the activities led by CF in the Far North region during the month of October 2022.
Introduction
Being one of the most populated regions in the country, the Far North is one of those heavily underserved in terms of access to testing services. There are very few standards of care testing labs, POC and near POC deployed only to a few sites.
This creates a high patient density per device. Exacerbated by long distances patients hardly reach testing services on time and in most cases have to visit the facilities multiple times increasing out of pocket spending. This creates opportunities for patient leakage and loss to follow up. In the bid to ameliorate access to testing and related care services like access to medication, ICAP has collaborated with CRIHSS Foundation within an SLA to leverage CRIHSS Foundation’s sample referral program to improve access and improve on the indicators of the 3rd 95 of the UNAIDS 95 95 95 Goals.
Our approach was to ensure that our system supports sample transport transactions across health facilities where we provide universal access to routine assays such as rVLT, EID/DBS, CD4 and TB as well as EQA panels within acceptable delay. Through our activities, we not only improve access to testing services, we also activate sample transport in some other facilities. Direct impact includes increase in number of patient samples collected and processed.
Indirectly other programs can leverage on our system to deliver their services like the EQA program. Our system guarantees a reliable and well-coordinated sample transport system put in place to ensure early diagnosis, timely delivery of results and effective monitoring of patients on ART.
