STS Monthly Report | Far North | November 2022

This monthly report presents activities implemented in collaboration with ICAP under the PAS Project funded by CDC/PEPFAR, in collaboration with HIVAIDS Regional Technical Group North.

Introduction

The Far North Region which is the region presented in this report is the northmost region of Cameroon just as its name indicates. It shares boundaries mainly with two countries, Chad in the northeast and Nigeria in the west.

This region is divided into 6 Divisions and 47 subdivisions. In terms of the health coverage, there are 31 health districts in the region with 27 facilities receiving PEPFAR support through ICAP to attain HIV epidemic control by achieving the UNAIDS 95 95 95 goals. In this effort, several solutions and system arrangements are being put in place for effective service delivery.

One of these services is the sample referral network which plays a great role to decentralize access to HIV services including but not limited to testing. Being one of the most populated regions in the country, the Far North is one of those heavily underserved in terms of access to testing services. There are very few standards of care testing labs, POC and near POC deployed only to a few sites. This creates a high patient density per device.

Exacerbated by long distances patients hardly reach testing services on time and out of pocket creating opportunities for leakage and loss to follow up. In the bid to ameliorate access to testing services and related care services like access to medication, ICAP has collaborated with CRIHSS Foundation within an SLA to leverage CRIHSS Foundation’s sample referral program to improve access and improve on the indicators of the 3rd 95 of the UNAIDS 95 95 95 Goals.

It is within this framework that CF delivers an enhanced and innovative sample referral service model in the Far North region and provides progress reports and updates as required.
