Improving access to HIV (VL, EID) samples in the East Region.
The East and south regions currently have the highest HIV prevalence in Cameroon. In 2019 10.6% of newly diagnosed HIV patients resided in the East region after Littoral (17.4%) and Centre regions (26.8%)
Future Outlook – potential areas to consider starting October 2020
Develop a map of HFs based on patient active file per lab per device for rVLT to improve access to VLT and uptake.
Improve sample storage arrangements across all hubs to maximize sample collection.
Strengthen supply chain systems to ensure lab commodities are readily available onsite to facilitate timely and appropriate collection and transportation of samples.
Train HWs on sample collection, handling and transportation including use of mobile Apps to track travel times for improved efficiencies.
Use of fridge tags to monitor chain of custody of samples during transportation.
Put in place SMS printers and notification systems to strengthen systems to expedite EID and VL result return to facilities and patients.
In terms of data quality the East region ranks among the top regions with >99% of data reported in DHIS2, however only 55% of the data is submitted in a timely manner.
